Tasks and sub-tasks allow you to break down the work being done on a project into bite-sized pieces. Tasks can be assigned owners and observers, as well as start and end dates and dependencies. You can also create sub-tasks to further break down the work being done to achieve your project's completion.
To access a project's task list, click into a specific project from the Project listing page. This will take you to the projects task list.
To create a new task, click + New Task at the top right.
New Task Creation
When creating a new task, complete the following fields. Note that task details are not visible on the projects dashboard, and are only used internally or in reports.
- Task Name is the only required element for a new task.
- Owner and observers can be set on tasks to help with accountability and project management. Note that owners and/or observers are not currently mandatory.
- Description is an open-text field with available formatting, to input additional details about the task for your team.
- Start and End Dates can be set to help keep your team on time with their responsibilities. Task start and end dates are not bound by the project's start and end dates, so you have flexibility here to set the dates as you need.
-
Dependencies allow you to define other tasks within the project that have some dependency on the task you're creating. This allows you to force a particular order for tasks to be completed.
- Blocked by means that the selected task cannot be completed before the current task being created.
- Blocking means the selected task must be completed before the current task being created.
- Subtasks can be created to further break-down the work of a task. Subtasks can be assigned owners and fall under the task start/end dates. They are a great way to track smaller work within the task.
Once your task details have been configured, click Save.
