Now that you have designed a great looking Public Dashboard and community members have started flocking to it you may want to know who is visiting it and what areas of the plan is of greatest interest to them. This information can be an indication of what is important to your community and can help drive and identify priorities for future planning within the organization.
To do this we can use the power of Google Analytics 4 (GA4) to give us the ability to track specific events, such as page views or demographic data. This article will provide resources to take advantage of the enhanced tracking offered in GA4.
To set up a Google Analytics account a Google Analytics 4 Property will need to be created. Once created a unique tracking ID ("G-") will be available to enter into Envisio through the Public Dashboard Admin Page > Site Settings.
There are two main options available depending for using Google Analytics 4:
Option 1: Set up Analytics data collection for the first time
Do this if you’re new to Analytics and ready to collect data for your website and/or app.
Option 2: Add Google Analytics 4 to a site with Universal Analytics
The GA4 Setup Assistant will add a Google Analytics 4 property alongside your existing Universal Analytics property. Your Universal Analytics property will continue to collect data. You can access both using the property selector in the Admin area.
Using Google Analytics in Envisio
Once a GA4 account has been created a Measurement ID code (ie. G-JZV3H3EH83) will be provided that will allow you to start tracking data for the Envisio Public Dashboard. This code can be entered from the Public Dashboard Admin page under the System Settings > Google Analytics Tracking Code. If a UA code was previously being used, it can be replaced with the new Measurement ID code.
Note: The tracking code will take effect once the page has been published. If the Public Dashboard was using a different Tracking Code or has been previously published, please republish the site.
Note: Universal Analytics Depreciation
Google has transitioned from their Universal Analytics (UA) to Google Analytics 4 (GA4). As of July 1, 2023, Universal Analytics will stopped processing data. For this reason, it is important for all Envisio customers leveraging Google Analytics on their public dashboards to ensure they’ve upgraded to Google Analytics 4 (GA4).
This article outlines the benefits of moving to Google Analytics 4. Existing Envisio customers who are already using Google Analytics on their public dashboard pages will follow the directions in Option 2: Add Google Analytics 4 to a site with Universal Analytics above.
