First time using Envisio? This article will help you navigate around Envisio Analytics. The left menu bar is the main navigation to get you around the features in Envisio. The options on the menu are broken out by modules you are subscribed to - Plans, Projects, Analytics, People and Polco – allowing you to easily navigate between different areas of the system. Clicking on the right-facing chevron beside the Envisio logo will open the Navigation bar, where you can see an expanded view, switch between different Plans and Projects, and access additional settings.
Left Menu Bar
On the left menu bar, the options for navigating Analytics are:
- Analytics Settings – Available only to users with the Analytics Administrator role, the Analytics Settings (cog icon) is where you can view all data sources, visuals and dashboards created by users, manage color palettes, tags and date formats, and view resource ownership.
- Data Sources – Manage existing data sources you own or that have been shared with you and create new data sources.
- Visuals – Manage the visuals you own, create new visuals, and view visuals that have been shared with you by others.
- Dashboards – View and manage analytics dashboards you have created or that have been shared with you.
You can access the Envisio knowledge base from the help icon, located on the top right of the page.
Header Bar
When you enter each component, whether it's a Data Source, Visual or Dashboard, the structure of the page has a similar theme.
The header bar consists of the component name to the left, last refreshed or last edited date/time information related to the component to the right, along with Sharing configuration, manual Refresh button, and Exit button.
In most areas, your work in Analytics is automatically saved when you tab out of the field or hit Enter on your keyboard.
Navigating Within a Component
Continuing from the header bar of the page, you will notice the page is structured similarly across components. The Type field indicates the component type you're viewing. In the example above, we're looking at a Manual data source. Further down, it displays the component name. When working with data sources and visuals, clicking on the component name or one of the nodes (such as a column in a data source) will bring up its Properties section with additional configuration options on the bottom half of the page.
Analytics Workflow
The basics of working in Analytics involve creating Data Source(s), then using the Data Source to create a Visual and optionally pin the Visual on a Dashboard to share internally or externally.
Almost all Visuals with the exception of the Embed and Summary Label types require you to connect to at least one Data Source.
