Glossary: Analytics

Refer to this list to help use and adopt Envisio definitions in your workflows.

General

Term	Definition
Analytics Admin	A module-specific role, accessible to System Admins or Standard Users, who can access Analytics system settings, perform bulk actions, and set organizational level color palettes and manage tags.
Dashboard (Analytics)	A compilation of visual components (widgets) that provide a snapshot of metrics and can be shared internally or externally via a URL link.
Data Source	Spreadsheet-like files that hold data in rows and columns, used to supply information for visuals and other data transformations.
Live URL	Publicly accessible live link that automatically refreshes as the dashboard data is updated.
Static URL	Publicly accessible link that retains the information at the time the snapshot is generated.
Visual	A general term for an informative, customizable, and shareable chart or table created from data (e.g., Combo Chart, Pie Chart, Table Visual).

Data Sources

Term	Definition
Append Data Source	A transformation data source used to stack multiple data sources together with similar columns to form a single new data set.
Data Source	Spreadsheet-like files that hold data in rows and columns, used to supply information for visuals and other data transformations.
Formula	Expressions used in Analytics (e.g., in formula columns, summary variables, or column conditions) to evaluate a result, such as calculating variance.
Manual Data Source	The data source type used for working with raw data, offering flexibility for a data set that does not require the structure of Measure data.
Measure Data Source	The data source type is ideal for tracking performance indicators that require columns for targets and actuals; it is a prerequisite for creating a Scorecard data source.
Organize Data Source	A transformation data source used to change the column order or remove columns from an existing data source without altering the original.
Pivot Data Source	A transformation data source that summarizes and groups large datasets to extract meaningful data.
Scorecard Data Source	A data source that brings together different performance indicators (from Manual or Measure data sources) into a summary table view.
Transpose Data Source	A transformation data source used to rotate the orientation and rearrange the columns of a data source for more desirable charting results.

Visuals

Term	Definition
Combo Chart Visual	A basic chart type that allows users to create vertical/horizontal bar charts, line charts, area charts, scatter plots, and combination charts.
Embed Visual	A visual type used to display content from external applications (e.g., Socrata, ArcGIS, Tableau, PowerBI) inside an Envisio Analytics dashboard using iframes.
Pie Chart Visual	A basic chart type that uses the relationship between segments to display part-of-whole data.
Scorecard Visual	A graphical representation that provides a quick view of how an organization's key performance indicators are performing, often utilizing conditional formatting.
Summary Label Visual	A visual type that uses text and symbols, often incorporating dynamic variables, to highlight key data points or create separators/titles on a dashboard.
Threshold	Lines or bands that can be added horizontally or vertically on the X or Y axis of a Combo Chart to highlight specific values for visualization or comparison.
