In this article, you'll learn how to use the Search and Filter options within View/Edit Plan or Submit Updates page to get to your plan element or measure quickly.
- Perform a Basic Search
- Filter Results by Plan Levels
- Add Additional Filters
- Use Filter Logic
- Create Presets
Perform a Basic Search
When on the Map View or Submit Updates, using the Search bar located in the upper-right corner of the page provides the quickest way to find your plan element or measure, by searching on the description field. To run a search, simply type a keyword in the search bar, and hit Enter on your keyboard.
Searches are based on exact-match. Meaning it will only return results based on what is entered. For example, if you type 'write' and the description has 'writing', this will not come up in the result. To return a result that has the word 'writing', one must type 'writing'.
Filter Results by Plan Level
You can filter by Plan Level or Performance Measure. This option is non-removable and by default, all plan levels are included in the search, but not the performance measures. As well, there's an option to show a plan element's latest update by toggling the Show Latest Update option. To filter by plan level or performance measures, here are the steps:
- Select the Show Filter icon on the right of the Search field.
- Click on the Plan Levels option (2.1) to view all the plan levels and performance measure levels. Make your selection, click Close, and click Search (2.3) to run the search.
To remove all search filters and start from fresh, use Reset All.
Add Additional Filters
In addition to filtering by description and plan levels, you can further narrow your search result by adding filters. When defining a filter, you'll need to select an attribute, an operator, and values. An attribute is a property of a plan element or measure. For example, if I'm querying on all plan elements owned by the employee Alisha Janes, I can use the following filter:
Employee (Attribute) Is (Operator) Alisha Janes (Value)
Multiple filters may be added, returning results that meet all the filter criteria. It is also possible to use AND, OR and () to further refine filter results using filter logic.
Here are the steps to add filters.
- To add filters select + Add Filter from the filter menu. A list of attributes will be displayed.
- Select an attribute from the list. Next, select the operator.
- Select or enter an attribute value. Values will be different for each attribute. For instance, when selecting Employee as the attribute, the value would be the names of the employees. There may be additional filtering options depending on the attribute. In the example below, the Role option accompanies the Employee attribute, enabling us to search on plan elements where the employees, Adrienne Light and Alisha Janes, are owners.
- After selecting the attribute, operator, and values, click Search at the bottom of the screen.
List of Operators available for each Attribute

| Start Date | Is, Is not, Is after, Is before, Between, Not contain |
| Status | Contains, Not contain |
| Tags | Is, Is not, Is after, Is before, Between, Not contain |
Use Filter Logic
If you have more than one filter, adding filter logic will let you specify conditions for your filters using logical operators between the filters. When you add filters, by default, all filters are related as AND logic. You can change it to use the OR logic using Filter Logic. Here's how.
- Click on Filter Logic. This option is only available when you have more than one filter.
- There are three operators, AND, OR and (). Note that parenthesis cannot be nested.
Operator Definition AND Return results that meet all filter criteria OR Return results that meet either filter criteria
In the below example the plan elements must either have a status of 'On Track' or Bart Harris must be an owner and the plan element must not be a cloned copy.
Sometimes AND and OR operators can be confusing. AND really means ALL criteria must be met while OR really means EITHER criteria can be met.
Create Presets
If you find yourself running the same query often, you can save yourself time by creating Presets. Here's how.
- With your filters defined, Click on Presets.
- Give your preset a name and click Add.
- Your new preset is added to the list. You can now Favourite your preset by clicking on the Star next to the preset. Favoriting the preset moves the preset to the filter panel allowing for easy access. This is great if it's a filter you run often, like show me 'At Risk Actions' for my department. To run this filter the next time you return to this screen, click on your new preset.
When using a preset, It's sometimes necessary to alter the filter criteria to change the search result. If you'd like to change the filter criteria on your preset to what's on your screen, simply toggle on Overwrite Preset and select the preset name from the list, then click Overwrite.
Presets are saved queries and are not affected by Reset All. To delete a preset, simply click on the Delete icon next to the preset name.
